Ms. Minerva - Guzman

Surrounded by her family, Minerva Guzman passed away on 7/15/23 at the age of 65 years after her brave fight against cancer. Minerva Guzman was born to Inez Camacho Mejia and Mario M. Iglesia in 1957 in Los Angeles at White Memorial Hospital. She would become the eldest of her 4 sisters and 2 brothers. In 1976 she married Frank M. Guzman and later gave birth to 2 Girls and 2 boys and raised them with pride and instilled in them the values of compassion and love. Minerva’s family and friends would describe her as caring, honest, loving, brave, trustworthy, and ambitious while always remaining a child at heart. She never strayed from the dance floor but would rather join it. She was adventurous, courageous, and wasn’t afraid to explore new destinations. Her drive to do more, accomplish more and achieve more spread to all her 4 children. Installing her morals of never stopping at the easiest option but wanting to understand what is beyond the highest point. Her accomplishments were always goal driven by deciding to join the Army National Guard (91-95) Attended College in Bakersfield, Ca, soon became a Counselor and Correctional officer for TCI (97-2006), Corrections in Cuba, Guantanamo bay (Special assignment), MED Tech, Licensed Vocational Nurse(2016) and in her final years as a clinical nurse instructor for Unitek College. Minerva’s career as a correctional officer took her to Cuba where she had residence on Guantanamo bay and became friends with coworkers from around the world. Her time in cuba brought her to see iguanas’ roaming free and having fresh seafood BBQ’s by the ocean overlooking the sunset. She was known for her love of music and her love for family. She enjoyed spending time at the Movie theaters, festivals. Watching Cartoons and above all walks with her grandchildren. She stood on her beliefs but was willing to listen to another person’s views. She had respect for other cultures, their music, food and religion. She will be forever our Puerto-Rican Queen in heaven and an angel in our hearts. She is survived by her children Christina Coffee, Melinda Guzman, Nixon V and Franklyn Guzman and her grandchildren Vance Coffee, Mia Coffee, Evan Coffee, Bella Martin, Tallulah Martin and Franklyn Guzman Jr. We love you mom.
