Lois Raye Lundquist Peterson

Lois Raye Lundquist Peterson, aged 82 of San Luis Obispo, California, went home to be with her LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 31, 2026. She was the one and only child of Lester and Dorothy Lundquist, both first generation Americans of Swedish descent. While growing up, her family hosted several foster children over the years. Lois came to faith in Jesus as a young girl when her mother prayed with her one Sunday night. Lois grew up in Chicago and attended Elim Baptist Church. Her family owned cherry orchards in Door County Wisconsin. She spent many weekends and summers in Sister Bay helping with the harvest. She graduated from Chicago Christian High School. After high-school, she was trained as a medical lab technician. Her first job was at South Chicago Hospital. She married her husband, Wayne Peterson in November 1964 and moved to San Gabriel Valley California where they lived in Pasadena, Temple City, and Covina. While living in Southern California she worked for Dr. Ross as a lab technician. During this time she and Wayne had two daughters, Sherri and Kristine. In 1969, Lois, Wayne and their two daughters moved to San Luis Obispo, CA. While raising their two daughters, Lois and Wayne also fostered three girls, one of whom they still remain in close contact with. Lois and Wayne also had three Finnish exchange daughters whom they also remain close to. Lois worked many years as a lab and x-ray technician for Dr. Collie in San Luis Obispo. Lois loved gardening, especially her many rose bushes and vegetable garden. Lois also loved sewing, quilting and knitting with her group called “The Knit Wits”. Lois, Wayne and family were involved with Edna 4-H for many years in the sewing, sheep and goat groups. Grace Church of San Luis Obispo was a special part of Lois’s life. Lois and Wayne have been active members since 1969. To the end of her life Lois tried not to miss Ron Hamley’s Sunday School Class. Lois also was actively involved in the Woman’s Weekly Bible Study and worked in the kitchen assisting at the many dinners the church hosted. After retiring in 2001, Lois and Wayne traveled extensively. Each year they would travel across the country visiting friends and family. They also had the opportunity to travel all over the world (Scandinavia, Europe, Israel, Turkey, Greece, India, Mexico, South America, the Caribbean, and Cote d’Ivoire to name a few). On March 31st, while surrounded by family, Lois slipped into the arms of Jesus, her LORD and Savior. Lois is survived by her beloved and loving husband, Wayne Peterson of 61 years, her two daughters, Sherri Frederick (husband Loran Frederick) and Kristine Ackermann (husband Erich Ackermann), and her four grandchildren, Rebecca Frederick, Michael Frederick, Audrey Ackermann, and Ethan Ackermann. A Celebration of Life is planned for July 18, 2026 at 11:00 at Grace Church in San Luis Obispo,1350 Osos St., San Luis Obispo, CA. The service will be followed by a reception.
