James Martines

June 18, 2021

James David Martines, 52, of Atascadero, Ca, passed away Friday June 18th at Twin Cities Hospital, Templeton, Ca. James was born in 1969 in San Luis Obispo, Ca. He was the youngest son of George and Ann Martines and grew up in a lively family with 3 siblings, numerous animals, and lots of crazy laughs. James had a big heart and an amazingly charming personality and he will be immensely missed by all who knew him, personally and in his professional life as well. James worked alongside his brother Mike in the Agriculture industry for 25 years and he amassed an impressive resume of knowledge and expertise in his career. He did it all, from farming to being the ambassador of our company, field supervisor, harvest manager, seed genetic specialist, the list goes on. James was especially instrumental in assisting Mr. Bill Albers of Magic Seed Co, in successfully integrating and introducing several new varieties of sugar snap peas into the commercial marketplace both in California and in Mexico. Over the last 17 years James was personally responsible for the evolutionary production of 100 million pounds of fresh stringless sugar snap peas. He was a rare combination of savvy professional and best friend to all he worked with, truly one of the good guys. James's smile and quick to laugh attitude, warmth, and unusual toughness will be missed. James was preceded in death by his sister Rosalind and his father George. James is survived by daughter Dallas Maxa and husband Rick Maxa, mother Ann Martines, brothers Mike and John, nephews Jeremiah and Johnny, nieces Jessica, Jenni, Lauren and Louise, and two very special women who shared very important times in his life, Lysa Paine and Tracy Truttman. A memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held on Friday Aug 6th at 10am at Old Mission Church, San Luis Obispo, Ca. We, the Martines Family, are very grateful for the immense outpouring of compassion and support during this difficult time and we thank each one of you from the bottom of our hearts.
