Helen May Piper
January 1, 1928 - April 22, 2022
Helen passed away Friday April 22, 2022 in San Luis Obispo. She was born in Los Angeles the youngest of five siblings to Margaret and James Pierce. Helen attended Roosevelt High School in Fresno, CA where she met her future husband, Chuck. They were married in 1950 after Chuck’s return from his service in the Marine Corps. Over the years Helen worked hard to raise her family and become a nurse. As a nurse Helen worked for over 20 years and was one of the first nurses to open the ER at the current St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno. In 1983 Helen retired and she and Chuck left Fresno and moved to Cayucos having completed their dream home they had worked on for the previous five years. During their retirement they enjoyed traveling and logged countless miles across the highways and byways throughout the country in their RV. After many years of living in Cayucos Helen and Chuck decided to move to Los Osos where they had several friends and were able to continue to be active in their RV traveling. With Chuck’s passing Helen finally made the decision to move to San Luis Obispo to the Marsh/Avila Assisted Living where she was thankful for the friendship and support, she received. Helen was a very social person and in her spare time she faithfully served many years in various positions in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the SLO Kamper Klub and Native Daughters of the Golden West. Helen was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Chuck, son Curtis and grandson Michael. She is survived by her daughter Julia, her son John and his wife Marjorie and her daughter-in-law Alison; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law’s Phyllis (Larry) and Annette; daughter-in-law of many years Lisa; numerous nieces, nephews and longtime friends. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on May 16, 2022 at the Cayucos-Morro Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider contributions in support of troops, currently serving and veterans groups for those that have served.
