Bette Joann Adams Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bette Adams passed away peacefully July 21, 2022, with many of her family members at her side. Bette was born Jan. 14, 1923 in the small farm community of Ross, Iowa. She was second youngest in a family of 9 children. During the depression, Bette, her younger sister, and mother moved to the nearby town of Audubon, Iowa, where she finished school and went to work at City Hall. In Audubon she met Leonard (Bud) Adams, the newly hired coach at Audubon High School. They fell in love and married in 1946. Following several career related moves, Bette and Bud settled in California where Bud was hired to start the first- ever football program at Cal State LA. They moved to LA in 1951 with two small children and then to Temple City, CA in 1957, where they added another son to the family. Bette’s first priority was always family but her other interests included gardening, sewing, and cooking. Together the family began camping, initially as a means to afford many summer trips to the Midwest for family visits, but later growing into a lifelong pastime for Bette and Bud. Bud passed in 2007 after 60 years of a beautiful life with Bette. In 2008, Bette joined two of her children by moving to Arroyo Grande. Her final 14 years were spent enjoying the beautiful Central Coast while living at Sunrise Terrace Mobile Home Park. Bette is survived by her 3 children, Mike (Jeanie), Cheryl (Keith Smith), and Steve (Rose), 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She was a wonderful, caring mother, grandmother, and GG, who will be missed greatly by us all. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Reis Family Mortuary, San Luis Obispo.
