Mr. Sean Steven Pierce

Sean Steven Pierce, beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed from this life on Tuesday May 2, 2023, peacefully in his sleep at the age of 54. He was at his home in Arroyo Grande with his faithful dog, Peeta at his side. Sean was born on March 14, 1969, in San Luis Obispo. He spent the majority of his early life on the central coast, graduating from Morro Bay High school in 1987. He went on to get his bachelor’s degree in Literature from Cal Poly and eventually getting his teaching credential from Cal Poly as well. He started teaching English at Arroyo Grande High School in the fall of 2001, where he went on to become the AP English teacher up until the present. His creative teaching style made him popular with many of his students. He incorporated humor and an informal atmosphere in the classroom, all while encouraging critical thinking and the very best effort out of his students. Sean was especially devoted to his 2 daughters, Miranda and Ella, from his marriage of 20 years to Mika Laster. The couple ended their marriage amicably in 2018 and remained in touch while continuing to raise their girls. He was very proud of what wonderful young women his daughters had grown into, supporting all their various activities. Sean loved reading and was especially fond of fantasy literature. The Wheel of Time series was a special favorite of his, saying after 20 years of devouring each book as they slowly came out, that reading the final one was a spiritual experience for him. Tom Robbins was also a favorite author of his, which he happily recommended to his senior students as a master storyteller and pathway to enlightenment. Harley Quinn comics and memorabilia were also a special favorite in his extensive comic book collection. And of course, Lord of the Rings was a touchstone. Sean was a great son, a loving father, and a loyal friend. He would help you if you had a need, he would listen to students who had worries or problems. No doubt his kindness and easy-going personality will be missed by all who knew him. Sean is survived by his 2 daughters, Miranda Pierce and Ella Pierce of Arroyo Grande, his mother De Pierce and sister Dawn Marie of Montague, California, his father, Jim Pierce and step-mother Jill Pierce of Cayucos, as well as his half-sisters Regina Brown and her husband Carlton of Encinitas, California and Serina Seder and her husband Scott of Roseburg, Oregon, step-sister, Jessica Mastrippolito and her husband Dominic of Ventura, and step-brother Isiah Miller of Cayucos, not to mention many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many good friends. Sean Boy, you will be in our hearts and remembered forever! A Celebration of Life will be held, date pending View Facebook, Arroyo Grande High School’s Fallen Angels (Sean Pierce) for remarks from past and present students on the positive impact Sean made on them.
