Mr. Richard Mark Fisher

Richard Mark Fisher, 71, of San Luis Obispo, CA passed away suddenly on March 26, 2024. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Fisher, father Edward Fisher, sisters, Diane Fisher, Ramona Najera and brother Ted Fisher. He was survived by his wife, Sandra " Sassi" Fisher of 50 years, and his two sisters, Linda Napierskie and his twin Barbara Fisher, along with nieces, Ginger Fisher, Kimber Roach and Joana Najera, great nieces and nephews, his aunt Susan Duranty and two half-brothers, Curtis and Larry Fisher. Richard lived in San Luis Obispo for 66 years, attending Mission school, then graduation from San Luis Obispo High School in 1971. He took some classes as Cuesta College before enlisting into the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1978. He and Sassi married in 1974, and began a wonderful life together with many adventures and endless memories. Richard had a kind and loving heart and made many close friends throughout the years that both he and Sassi considered to be extended family. He started working full time for the city of SLO in 1977, working upwards through different positions including, heavy equipment operator, Street Maintenance Leader and retiring after 42 years as a Public Works Inspector. After he retired, he returned to work with the Engineering Division as a Contract Construction Manager, totaling 47 years with the city. Richard played a key role in building public improvements, including water and sewer systems, better roads, bridges, and public buildings until his passing in 2024. Richard was a past member of the Native Sons, and an active member in the American Legion Post 66 and the Osos Club, volunteering his skills at the BBQ pit. Most of all Richard loved the outdoors and travel. He and Sassi took many trips across the United States and abroad, and enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends. He was an avid hunter and cherished the time spent with his hunting buddies. There will be a celebration of life held at the White Barn in Edna Valley 217 Green Gate Rd. San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 11am. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Community Foundation in Richard's name to honor his commitment to mentoring future generations of skilled construction workers.
