Mr. Daniel John Lumsden

Daniel John Lumsden 1962 - 2025 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel (Dan) John Lumsden, age 62, of San Luis Obispo, California, who passed away unexpectedly at his home, on March 22, 2025. Born in Fresno, California, on May 31, 1962, Dan moved with his family to Auburn, California, in 1978, where he lived out the majority of his life. He attended Placer High School, where he played soccer and participated in track and field. Dan graduated in 1980 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base, in Fairfield, California, from 1981 to 1984. Once he completed his service, Dan returned to Auburn and began his long career in construction as a contractor in the flooring industry. After retiring, Dan spent the last four years of his life living in San Luis Obispo, California, so he could be closer to family. Dan was a gifted athlete and he excelled in every sport he played, but his true love of sport was soccer and he was an exceptional player. Playing throughout his youth and well into adulthood, Dan earned numerous soccer championships and accolades a long the way. Most notably, he was selected for the 1980 All League Soccer team while playing for Placer High School and was selected for the 14-man squad of the 1982 Interservice Air Force Soccer team while playing for Travis Air Force Base. Dan was a die-hard Raiders football fan, remaining loyal to his team throughout his life. He also loved watching English Premier League soccer, and his favorite team was Everton FC. Dan was also a huge fan of Frank Zappa’s music, and he loved watching The Simpsons and classic Monty Python movies. Dan was best known, however, for his sarcastic and witty sense of humor, fun-loving spirit, and endearing personality. He loved his family and friends fiercely, and he will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Dan was preceded in death by his father, William T. Lumsden, and his sister, Juliana Wallace. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Espana; his sisters, Patricia Lumsden and Catherine (Aaron) Baker; his brothers, Lawrence (Jeanette) Lumsden and William R. (Kriss) Lumsden; his nine nieces and nephews; his nine great nieces and nephews; and his many close friends and extended family. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date to be determined. To our beloved brother, uncle, and loyal friend, we love you and we miss you. May your spirit fly free until we meet again.
