| By planning ahead, you spare your family from having to make a lot of decisions, in a short period of time. If the death occurs in a hospital or care facility, the next of kin is going to be requires to select a mortuary to remove the remains, as soon as possible. If the hospital cannot reach the family and arrangements have not been made ahead of time, the hospital, will select a mortuary, regardless of who you choose. The hospital or care facility will contact the mortuary for you to arrange removal. Next the Mortuary contacts the doctor to obtain a cause of death and their signature on the death certificate. Make an appointment with the mortuary. If you just show up they may have a funeral in progress, or the counselor may be in with another family, causing you to have to wait or come back. It is important to meet with your funeral director prior to makng any service plans. The minister and cemtery are only two of the many factors in arranging a funeral or cremation . The funeral home must file a death certificate before a burial or cremation can take place. If the doctor or corner does not sign the certificate, in a timely mannner , if the county or state reject the cause of death, or an autopsy is required the services may have to be delayed or cancelled. ( the funeral home has no control over how long it takes for a death certificate to be completed.) | ||
